How to model a Bali Roof in ArchiCAD

How to model a Bali roof in ArchiCAD?

In mid December 2014 I noticed a question that was posted on the ArchiCAD Group on Linkedin.

The question was by Mhlekazi and he asked "how can one draw a Bali roof using archicad?"

This is actually very easy to do, so I created a step-by-step #infographic for it
.

How to model a Bali roof in ArchiCAD?
Well actually I first did a Google search for "bali roof" images to be sure I understand what a "bali roof" should look like. Another clue also came from Djordje asking Mhlekazi to qualifying if this roof must be thatch or tiles.
Here is part of what the image search on Google came up with:

Change to Codemeter: FREE on SSA in SADC

GRAPHISOFT SA is proud to announce the FREE exchange program of WIBU dongles to CODEMETER dongles for all it’s SSA clients in SADC. The dongle exchange is aimed at replacing all WIBU dongles used by SSA clients in SADC, as these dongles offer limited programming flexibility and most importantly, these dongles will not be compatible with future versions of ArchiCAD.

Architectural visualization live online seminar

"Architectural visualization live online seminar"

Graphisoft has announced their next live online webinar and the subject is one close to my heart.
In my career I have been using ArchiCAD since version 6.5 for mainly design development and documentation. Between working hours and lost sleep, I would take my ArchiCad documentation model and love to spend long leisurely hours setting up lighting and materials, placing furniture, landscaping, etc and rendering my projects. Some rare occasions the rendering was on commission for a client, but mostly it was to satisfy my itch to create beautiful renders.
Picture
This "extra work" was partly an outlet for a neglected part of my being while mostly spending time on documentation of the next and the next project. Make no mistake, I love doing well documented and detailed drawings and specifications, but fiddling with render materials, backdrops, furniture and landscaping to dress up my model to near perfection is more like a "love sport" than a job. Hours of mindless dreaming and "free flight" of the creative spirit.

This sounds like a "mouth full" but here I want to show you how simple and very powerful this underutilized workflow in ArchiCad actually is.

Document Index
I.  ArchiCad DWF Publishing Setup & Tools
II.  ArchiCad DWF Web Tools & communication
III. Importing Mark-up / Redlining info from DWF Web files into ArchiCad

ArchiCad to online web with DWF Reviewer for Redline / markup
ArchiCad to online web with DWF Reviewer for Redline / markup
In this document you will get a basic understanding of when & how to use the built in export function in ArchiCAD to generate .DWF files of your project. This set of exported documents can be used to share project info with clients, and project teams for info, collaboration and interaction. The receiver will not need any BIM or CAD software or relevant experience to view these documents and interact with them. They will only need a computer or device that has w web browser. Notes can be made on the documents, saved and sent back to the sender for implementation to the project as needed.

This is to help you Migrate your ArchiCad 7 project to ArchiCad 15.

In a case like this the handling of  a) Libraries,  b) Modules,  c) Linked External files &  d) Attributes is curtail to the successful migration.
Picture
With the instructions below you will open and save the project with the ArchiCAD 10 Packages and then open it in ArchiCAD 15

These steps will apply as example for a solo project with no linked modules or linked DWG / PDF / image files:

1.     Download & install “ArchiCAD 10 Packages - open files from version 6.5 and ArchiCAD 7.0 Packages “ http://www.graphisoft.com/support/archicad/downloads/Fileconverter.html
2.     Open the installed “ArchiCAD 10 “ and on the menu go to File/Open then Browse & select your ArchiCad 7 project Click OPEN
3.     The Library Manager will open. Browse to the ArchiCad 7 Library on your computer / server and Add it to the library list

Best Practice: Archicad and Pens & Pensets

11/5/2011

While training new users and some times experienced users that might have learned the long way (self taught by trail-&-error), I find myself having to spend some time helping users to get this right: How should I use the pens & pensets in ArchiCad correctly?
Some users struggle with this in the beginning because ArchiCad works with pens rather different than other 2D / CAD and 3D / BIM software products. I do not mind focusing on this aspect when needed at all, because everything in ArchiCad changes from struggling to "plain sailing" once you grasp this different but rather simple concept.
The easiest way for me to explain this to you in shortest terms is to refer to this section below in ArchiCad’s Help Menu ("HELP> Configuration > Attributes > Pen Sets > Predefined Pen Sets for Specific Functions"):
